Since taking up the piano at the age of four, Angelina Cheng Wong has not only become one of the foremost young pianists in Hong Kong, but has also made her mark on the international stage. Studying under the tutelage of the most prominent musical minds from the United States, Ukraine, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, Angelina has curated a distinctive musicality that reflects her multicultural influences and artistic capabilities of an elite caliber.

My Story

Angelina, who currently attends high school in Hong Kong, was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she began her musical journey. An internationally accomplished young artist, Angelina has taken her unique musical style to competitions across the globe. Along the way, she most notably won the special Encouragement Award and was a semifinalist at the XI International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians (Russia), which is among the most recognizable and prestigious piano competitions in the world. Angelina was also a finalist at other world-class competitions such as the Ettlingen International Piano Competition (Germany) at age 12 and the International e-Piano Junior Competition, U.S.. She has attained top prizes at the Philadelphia International Piano Competition, the San Jose International Piano Competition, the Aloha International Piano Competition (Young Artist group), the Pacific Musical Society Competition (Northern California), the Annual San Francisco Chopin Competition, the CAPMT Honors Competition State Final (California), and the Steinway and Sons International Youth Piano Competition (Hong Kong, Professional B), among others.

Angelina’s flair for performance has allowed her to merge her love of traveling and her passion for sharing her gift with a wider audience. She has been invited to play at many esteemed music venues across Asia, Europe, and North America, the most noteworthy being Carnegie Hall in New York. A lover of classical architecture, Angelina has played at the magnificent 13th century Sala dei Notari in Perugia, Italy, and the Asam Hall in the breathtaking Ettlingen Schloss Castle in Germany, home to the Ettlingen International Piano Competition, which has hosted famous alumni such as Yuja Wang and Lang Lang. She has also graced the stages of historically significant sites such as the San Francisco War Memorial Performing Art Center and cutting-edge, modern venues like the Hong Kong Culture Center Concert Hall.

Angelina believes that the communicative influence of music is immense, and has used the power of her talents to support charity fundraising events and promote classical music culture in TV shows such as NBC Palm Springs Today and NBC Desert Living.

Whilst juggling her musical responsibilities, Angelina excels in academics as a school scholar. She is an avid reader and has a passion for linguistics, studying both Chinese and German. In California, she was her school’s spelling bee champion and her city’s spelling bee bronze medalist. A proficient writer, Angelina’s piece was shortlisted at the Hong Kong Young Writers Awards. Angelina foresees a future in which she utilizes her communicative skills and expressions in music and language to connect with others and bring people together in an increasingly divisive world.
