Haoliang Jiang, who goes by Hugo, has always been passionate about the study of sociology and history. He aspires to delve deeper into this all-encompassing field in his future academic career and pursue sociology as his major in college. He is the Founder of Archive Culturology with a mission to explore culture and tradition literacy as a pathway for human rights preservation.
My Story
Even in kindergarten, he was captivated by tales of mighty knights and barons living in medieval Burgundy or Renaissance Tuscany, eagerly seeking out “encyclopedias for kids” to learn more about them. He dreamed of becoming one of the glorious Roman citizens or senators. Like most childhood dreams, this one faded when he realized he had to finish his math homework before diving into role-playing games.
For a long time, he thought this “childish” passion would never return—until he discovered sociology. While he cannot literally travel back in time or embody the characters of history, sociology allows him to bridge the gap between himself and those who lived centuries ago. Through sociology, he has encountered an unprecedented diversity of topics to explore, ranging from culture to economics. The diversity of human culture helps him understand the contextual factors behind social phenomena, while the precision of economics provides an intuitive way to interpret societies.
Recognizing the irreplaceable importance of economics in analyzing a society, he is also eager to understand the fundamentals of macroeconomics. The study of macroeconomics will enhance his understanding of sociology and lay the foundation for future interdisciplinary exploration. In addition to macroeconomics, the study of human rights further enriches his understanding of sociology. The developments of human rights can explain a vast array of social phenomena, and he aspires to deepen his knowledge of this field and continue to explore the connections between culture and society.
His other engagements at school include, Art and Animation Club, where he is serving as a club member and participating in composing creative art projects. In addition, he is active in Chinese Culture Club, where he as a club member is passionate about introducing Chinese culture.
Looking ahead, he aims to focus his studies on historical sociology research and hope to become an academic researcher in this field. Sociology has become an irreplaceable part of his identity. He wishes to continue exploring this vast field, unlocking its endless possibilities, and ultimately becoming an academic researcher in historical sociology.
